Baskets are still widely used in the regions in China from which most Chinese Americans originated prior to 1970, as seen in this series of photographs from Hoiping District (Kaiping), Guangdong Province in 2006. Below, a basket work sieve is being used to winnow rice in Hom Toon Village. Similar sieve baskets may been at China Camp. Notice also that the metal scoop is similar in form to the basket scoop in the photograph from China Camp.
